GENE GILBERT KNIERIEN

Gene or Gene-O, as he was known to his friends or Gil, as he was called by family, age 66 years, from Middleboro, MA, passed away on March 3, 2022 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by family at the VA West Roxbury Hospital in West Roxbury, MA

Gil was born on January 22,1956 to Gene and Betty (Knight) in Akron, OH. He graduated from Manchester High School in Ohio and immediately enlisted in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA, where he served for 6 years. He proudly spent his service time aboard the USS Plymouth Rock. He was an electrician by trade.

Gil was proceeded in death by his Mom, Betty Knierien. He is survived by two sons: Todd (Chelsea) Apple and Chad (Carey) Apple with nine grandchildren: Jadyn, Jensen, Jameson, Jenner, Carsen, Carter, Casey, Nash and Cason.  He also leaves behind his sister, Debbie (Frank) Neal and two nephews, Dan (Allison) Neal and Ben (Stephanie) Neal. He is also survived by his father Gene in Wadsworth, OH and by numerous friends in Middleboro, MA.

Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and planning special trips to make memories with his grandchildren. His hobbies included 4-wheeling, RC cars, and working on his next project. Most recently a go-kart for his grandchildren.

Special thanks to the medical staff at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury for his care during his many admissions and while he was in hospice during his recent stay.

Cremation has already taken place. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at a later time. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National  Cemetery in Rittman, OH with military honors. Donations may be made to the Fisher House at www.fisherhouseboston.org.
