Frances Carmela Bellantoni Condaxis, beloved wife of the late William Peter (Bill) Condaxis, died reluctantly and peacefully on April 7, 2026. Loving mother of Peter Condaxis (partner Tricia), Paula Angell (husband Rob), and Bill Condaxis (partner Cathy). Cherished Yiayia to Daniel (fiancé Dianna), Thea (partner Dan), Robby, Mersina (husband Josh), and Big Yiayia to Tessa and
Warren. Devoted sister of the late Natale and Anthony
Bellantoni. Also survived by many beloved nieces,
nephews and godchildren.
Fran was born on November 21, 1925, at 26 East
Springfield St in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of
Sicilian immigrants Marie Carmela Giarrusso Bellantoni and Joseph Bellantoni. She was delivered by her Grammy at home because the doctor was at the race track. Fran attended Girls' High School in Boston. It was not typical for women to attend college in 1943 yet Fran's Aunt Mary urged her to go to Framingham State College and to live on campus; this changed the trajectory of her life. Fran became a Registered Dietitian and moved to New York City where she worked at Flower Fifth Ave and Grasslands hospitals. In 1951, to be closer to her family, Fran took her favorite job, "feeding 2,000 men", at Brown University in Providence RI. There she met her love Bill and lifelong best friends Don, Vinnie and Soc. Fran loved to cook and entertain often. She was a creative chef and her food was legendary, in particular her Italian and Greek meals and her Whoopie Pies. There was always room for more people at Fran's table. Music was important throughout Fran's life. As a child, practicing piano for her Grammy after supper got her out of doing the dishes. Fran got scholarships to the South End Music School. At Framingham State, she played piano and sang for the chorus and choir, including a performance with the Pops at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. Fran found comfort in singing baritone with the Sweet Adelines when Bill's work took them to New York City, Foster City California, Plano Texas, Hong Kong and when they retired to Bourne on Cape Cod. At Sophia Snow House, the Independent Senior community where she lived happily for the last 12 years, she played piano and enthusiastically attended events. Fran was fun and vivacious. She loved games and sports especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. She was a tough competitor and the ultimate team player. She loved camp and being a camp counselor. As a kid, Fran played marbles on the streets of Boston and later basketball (yes, at 5 feet tall!), field hockey, skiing, tennis and golf until age 92. Most of all, Fran loved her family and her friends. Fran's feisty nature, her love of life and especially her big heart will live on in the many people she loved and nurtured. She was everyone's mom and will be sorely missed. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Friday, April 24, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
