Obituary

Faina S (Charny) Fridkina                                                                                                      Boston

Faina S. Fridkina, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 11th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. At the age of 90, she left behind a lifetime of memories and accomplishments.

Faina is survived by her son Gennady, her daughter Yelena, daughter-in-law Elina, son-in-law Anatoly, grandson Sergey and his wife Yelena, as well as her large extended family.

Faina was a remarkable woman who lived a full and meaningful life. Born in Berezino, Belarus in 1932, she grew up during one of the most difficult times in human history, the Second World War. Faina faced many challenges, including having to flee the Nazis, living in remote Kazakhstan for five years, and losing her mother. Despite the hardships she faced, Faina showed incredible resilience and endurance, and at only twelve years old she stepped in to help raise her younger sister Maria. The two sisters and their brother Izya were as close as siblings can be throughout their lives. Her last wish was to be buried near them.

Faina finished her education and started her career in a war-devastated Ukraine. She became a pharmacist and worked in pharmaceutical wholesale as a department deputy head. In 1957, Faina married the late Yankel Fridkin and the couple spent the next 31 years raising their two children, Gennady and Yelena. She also helped raise her grandson, nieces and nephews, and many of their children to whom she was a friend and a playmate.

Faina was a true artist, gifted in the areas of cross-stitching, sewing, and knitting. Her patience and attention to detail was impeccable. After she moved to the United States in 1996, she became known in her apartment building for her beautiful cross-stitching artworks which she enjoyed creating and sharing with friends and family. Faina was an inspiring figure who loved the arts with a contagious passion. Her love of music was particularly strong, and she was instrumental in encouraging her children and grandchild to pursue their own musical interests. Her talent for singing and dancing added to her infectious enthusiasm, making her a shining light in any room. With her sparkling eyes and radiant spirit, Faina was an enchanting presence that drew people of all ages to her.

Faina's impact on those around her will be felt for generations to come. Her legacy will live on through the love that she has given and received, through her crafts and embroideries, and through the children for whom her memory will not fade. Loved and loving, she will forever live in our hearts as a symbol of strength, resilience, and love.
