Sheldon, Elizabeth Ann, 57, died peacefully on June 7th, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center of Brockton, Massachusetts, after a brave battle with Cancer. Elizabeth was born in San Diego, California in 1956. Arriving on Aquidneck Island in the 60's with her family, Liz graduated from Middletown High in 1974 and joined the Army in 1975. Upon returning to Newport, Liz was employed as a Bookkeeper, Executive Assistant with Sid Gorham Commercial Real Estate, Goat Island Management Company and for The Hinckley Company Of Portsmouth, R.I. Liz's favorite time was early morning, cup of coffee in hand. She loved the ocean, beautiful scarves, daisies, fresh pears and Anthony's fried shrimp with French fries. She indulged her creative side crocheting Afghans, decorating and exploring vintage shops. She cherished the company of dear friends. An animal lover, Liz assisted Paws Watch of Rhode Island with their work with feral cats. Prior to Liz's passing she celebrated 16 months of sobriety, thanks to the help of the VA Medical Center in Brockton, CIRCA program, and all the support she received at the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Mass. The new friends she made while on this journey will never be forgotten. Her family would like to offer heartfelt gratitude to all the staff and caregivers in the VA Medical System. Liz was a devoted sister to Gay H. Sheldon of Somerville, Mass, Laura McLaughlin of Richmond, VA, and the late Guy H. Sheldon. Her extended family and friends mourn her. A memorial luncheon will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 3 pm-7pm.
