David Wellinger of West Roxbury died peacefully in his home on July 13, 2026. He was 102 years old. He was born in Brockton, MA and lived in Dorchester, MA as a child and teen. David worked at Clearweave in Jamaica Plain as a stock boy and shipping clerk while attending school at Boston University. David received an Undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree from Boston University. He also did post-graduate work at Columbia University in New York. He taught Math at Rutgers, Wagner College, Hunter College, Boston University, and the University of Connecticut at Storrs. David was a Systems Engineer at RCA, which became GE, for over 30 years. David also worked at the MIT Flight Control Lab for six years, from 1952 until 1958. David retired at age 65, then went back to RCA for three months, working on a special project, the Hydrofoil Craft Sea Legs.
He is survived by his niece, Julie Joy, his grand-niece, Shana Joy and his great-grand-nephew, Kai, all of Honolulu, HI and his grand-niece, Skye Joy of Brookline, MA.
Before he passed, David said, “I’ve had a long life and an interesting one. I have no complaints about that.”
