Daniel William Bruce passed away at his residence in Weymouth on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the age of 59.

Dan was born on July 1, 1963 to father Carl Frank Bruce and mother Joan M. (Carey) Grubis of Brighton. He attended primary school in Jamaica Plain and then relocated to Beverly, MA as a teenager to live with a friend's family where he graduated from Beverly High School.

Dan was a proud Army veteran who shared stories of his time stationed in Hawaii and Germany in the '80s and early '90s. Throughout his life he enjoyed being outdoors and would spend his time fishing with friends, camping in New Hampshire, and growing vegetables and herb plants. He had a passion for writing poetry and began the process of publishing his literary collection. He was a collector of antique furniture and acquired unique collectibles throughout his travels. Dan also enjoyed playing computer and video games. He cherished spending quality time and sharing meals with family during the holidays.

Dan will be remembered most as a generous and kindhearted man who always helped those in need. During the start of the pandemic, he donated his entire stimulus check of $1,200 to the Weymouth Pantry to help families who were food insecure. Above all, he was a devout Catholic who led his life by the teachings of the gospel with compassion, forgiveness, and grace.

Dan is survived by his daughter Catherine Marie Luu, and son-in-law Brian Luu, of Stoughton.

He also leaves behind four siblings Kevin, John, Richard, and Kathy.

Visiting hours on Wednesday June 28, from 5:00 to 7:00pm in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday June 29, at 12:45 pm in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
