Charles W
Brown
April 9, 1933 – February 7, 2025
We sadly note the passing of Charles W. Brown on February 7. He was the youngest of Emily Thomas's and Jonathan Brown's eight children. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army's 2nd armored division. He was stationed in Mainz, Germany as a technician and moonlighted as a driver, often for the Master Sergeant and visiting "brass." When he returned to the states, he became an electrical apprentice at the Duquesne Works division of U.S. Steel. He retired from U.S. Steel as an electrician after 40 years. A self-taught jack-of-many trades, Charlie was the go-to for all things electrical and mechanical. He was an avid fisherman, music lover, tomato grower, kayaker, furniture maker, and clock builder. He was a fitness advocate, pumping iron and cycling well into his golden years. He loved his Honda Rebel which he rode until the age of 90. Charlie never walked away from a challenge—he faced the highs and the lows of 91 years of whatever life presented head-on, with incredible strength of character and dignity. His giftedness was matched by his incredible humility. What he cherished above everything was his family. As told by Charlie, the best years of his life were spent raising his five children, with his late and beloved wife of 49 years Martha (Marcinko). His passing will be mourned deeply by his children: Mark Brown of Lower Burrell, Dean Brown (& Lisa) of Leechburg, Scott Brown (& Tammy) of North Huntington, Charles Brown Jr. (& Pamela) of North Huntingdon, and Erin Crean (& Thomas) of Boston, MA along with 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are private and entrusted to Robert J Lawler & Crosby, West Roxbury, MA.
