Carolyn Garbuschewski
June 17, 1941 – March 8, 2025 (age 83)
Carolyn Garbuschewski, an accomplished musician and educator and an extraordinary human being, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on March 8, 2025 at the age of 83. Carolyn was the organist for many years at the Stevensville United Methodist Church -bringing her love of music and joie de vivre to the congregations and choirs. She also spent most of her career at Bridgman Elementary School where her humor, creativity and professional dedication inspired both students and colleagues over the years.
Carolyn's greatest love was of people – her family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and community members. She loved helping others in their lives and endeavors. Carolyn was a creative problem-solver and decorator, a steadfast advocate and mentor and a devoted mother and friend. Her love of books was also shared with many whether to support a student's curiosity or to comfort someone in need, Carolyn had just the right book for any occasion.
Carolyn was also an avid gardener and steward of nature. She also loved to bake. Of course that meant, she loved to give away her delicious delicacies, too. Her baking was truly legendary! Then there was her handwriting, which was admired as an absolute work of art. Although reserved, Carolyn had a zest for life. She was always on the go and out exploring, as well as readily accepting invitations to adventure. Some of these adventures took her camping in the wilderness of Wyoming, hot air ballooning and, eventually, skydiving in San Diego, sightseeing in London and cheering on the Celtics. She met her fair share of challenges in life, but demonstrated both grace and strength during trying times. Carolyn had an impact far greater and deeper than she ever would take credit for and her example will continue to inspire even in her absence.
Carolyn was married to the love of her life, Ronald Garbuschewski, who predeceased her. Mother to Cathy Hay and Brent (Michelle) Garbuschewski. Grandmother to Tucker and Brodie Hay, Emma Garbuschewski and Joe and Ryan Yambor.
A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 10th from 2:00-4:00pm at Harborlight Montessori School, 243 Essex Street, Beverly, MA 01915. In support of Carolyn's passion for education and love of the Montessori philosophy, donations can be made in her honor to the Carolyn Garbuschewski Scholarship through the Montessori Institute – New England: https://mi-ne.org/admissions/scholarships
