Barry Michael Murphy of Pleasant Ridge, MI, passed on October 19, 2022. He was the son of the late Bernard and Althea Murphy. He is survived by his beloved family Catherine, his wife of 52 years, children Jennifer (Tim) and Michael Murphy (Cassandra), cherished grandchildren John, Charlotte, Emma, Ben, Jane, Isabella and Julianna, beloved brother Brian Murphy (Katharine) of South Easton, MA and the late Richard Murphy of NYC, extended family Noel Garcia and Asia Washington of DC, and dear friend Dr. Nancy Pearson Clifton of West Roxbury, MA.
Raised in Roslindale and West Roxbury, MA Barry was a graduate of The Roxbury Latin School '60 and Stonehill College '67. His professional career began in the automotive industry and progressed to Director, Investor Relations at Federal Mogul and at Autoliv. His corporate retirement resulted in a Batteries Plus ownership until the age of 78.
During his career Barry became President of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), a member of the Corporate Advisory Council (NAIC), Board of Trustees of the Michigan Chapter of Economics America, as well as an Advisor for Junior Achievement.
He enjoyed his participation in Pleasant Ridge with the School Board, the Pleasant Ridge Foundation, the Pleasant Ridge Recreation Commision, and especially the Pleasant Ridge Auction, in addition to coaching youth soccer. Barry highlighted the summer with Family Swim nights at the community pool- cherished memories for his children.
He loved visiting with family and friends in the Boston area and vacations to Cape Cod and Nantucket. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren, hearing about their achievements, and watching their athletic events.
Barry will be remembered for his generosity to his family, kindness to his friends and employees, humility, and significant contributions to his community through his services for the City of Pleasant Ridge.
Services will be held at a later date in Boston, MA and posted on this site. A private burial will be at Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. Remembrances may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
