Obituary

Fitzgerald, Barbara A. age 90 of Roslindale, September 8, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Fitzgerald. Loving mother of Karen McGowan (John) of Dedham, Lynne Corbo (Phil) of Hanover, Tom Fitzgerald (MaryFran) of Marshfield, and Joe Fitzgerald (Kathy) of Marshfield. Barbara was a warm and incredibly devoted grandmother to twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Barbara grew up in Jamaica Plain and was born in Boston to her wonderful parents, the late Thomas and Margaret (Kelly) Spellman of Roscommon Ireland. Barbara is also survived by her sister Joan Mazzocca (Rich) and her sister-in-law Barbara Fitzgerald (the late Bill). She was preceded in death by her sister Rose Altimar (the late Frank) and her brother Frank Spellman (the late Anna). Barbara is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.

Barbara loved growing up in Jamaica Plain and spoke often of the happy times with her many relatives and friends. She had a special fondness for St. Thomas High where she met many of her lifelong friends. She was a cheerleader at St. Thomas where she cheered loudly for her future husband Joe. She actually cheered the loudest at all her grandchildren's sporting events. She loved spending individual time with all her grandchildren, her love for them was endless. Barbara was never one to sit idle as she was always learning new things. She was a very talented painter who always worked on her craft. Her paintings adorn many walls in the homes of those she loved. She took wood working classes, computer classes, sewing classes and many more. Barbara had a rewarding career as an Administrative Assistant at the Mitchell School in Needham.

Barbara enjoyed summers in Marshfield and spring and fall in Yarmouth. Both cottages were usually filled with family and friends. The Roslindale house was always packed on holidays, the more the merrier. She loved cooking for the entire family each Thanksgiving, all were welcome. Her cooking skills were legendary, everyone looked forward to her dinners and desserts. Barbara was a devout Catholic and a great example for her children and grandchildren. She never missed Holy Mass and was a strong advocate for the unborn. Funeral from the Robert J Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury, on Wednesday, September 14th at 10:00am.
