Albert J
Nelson Jr.
April 17, 1961 – February 5, 2023
Nelson, Jr., Albert Joseph, of Meredith, NH formerly of Boston and Scituate, passed suddenly on Sunday, February 5th, 2023. Born in Jamaica Plain on April 17th, 1961, son of the late Dorothea Rose (née Schultz) and Albert Joseph Nelson. He was a father, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, a friend, and a colleague - and will be dearly missed by all. Chucky (as he was affectionately known) grew up in Jamaica Plain. He was one of the first boys to ever attend Boston Latin Academy. After high school, he became a member of the Local 12 Plumbers & Gasfitters, following in his father's footsteps. He was a member for more than 30 years and finished his career in Facilities for Boston University.
Al proudly worked on many, if not most, of the iconic buildings in Boston and beyond. He loved plumbing and was by all accounts one of the best. He had a passion for plumbing the same as an artist for painting. He was truly fortunate to have loved what he did for his career. At the time of his passing, he was just wrapping up his "Mona Lisa" of plumbing jobs at his brother Paul's house in NH. He had said it would be his last plumbing job, and in the end it was. Not that he no longer enjoyed plumbing, but he was ready to try new adventures. He had planned his next adventure to be on a deep sea fishing boat or motor cycling across the USA, but now his next adventure will be the great beyond.
Al married Danielle (Hooley) in 1987 and raised three daughters – Amanda, Stephanie, and Samantha. The family lived in Humarock and Scituate. He loved taking his girls to Sunday brunch, being the "tooth fairy" that gave $10, and showing them how to outrun marine patrol in his unregistered boat by going under low bridges on the river. He believed The 99 or The Outback had great steaks, so no need for the Capital Grille.
Al was a self-described pool shark, great dancer, and a Karaoke King. Those claims can be debated, but all agreed that he was the life of the party. He loved watching the Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins, but he loved seeing them live even more. He recently attended one of the coldest Patriots game in a longtime on Christmas Eve with his daughter Amanda. The cold was not going to stop him from enjoying a great day with his daughter and rooting on his team. They had plans to see the Celtics in the finals this year. Should the Cs make it, he will certainly be viewing as one of the gallery gods.
Al was funny and quick-witted, and he never held back an opinion or a grand story. Al loved music of all types, Frank Sinatra, Country, Aerosmith, and AC/DC were the favorites. But he loved people even more. He spent the last year having the most fun of his life with his family. He got his first tattoos since his initial (mistaken) ones in his teens. He spent an incredible 4th of July week with his daughters, nieces, nephews, and siblings on Lake Winnipesaukee. His booming voice and boisterous personality will be greatly missed on holidays.
Albert was preceded into Heaven by his daughter, Stephanie. He leaves behind his daughters Amanda Nelson of Medford and Samantha Nelson of South Carolina, his beloved siblings and in-laws, Kathleen (Kathy) Keane of Roslindale, Gregory and Paula Nelson of Braintree, Margaret (Peggy) and Russ Brooks of Dorchester, Paul and Gail Nelson of Meredith, NH; many beloved nieces and nephews; even more friends, family, and acquaintances.
