Ahmad
Attarchi
November 16, 1947 – January 21, 2022
An Iranian National, Mr. Ahmad Attarchi was born in Tehran, Iran, in the year 1948. He was the 5th of of a family of 9 children.
Growing up, Ahmad was showered with love from his older brothers and sister as well as his father's friends, who were like his uncles.
His father's friends took over and served as a role model to him , as Ahmad lost his father when he was only 9 years old.
He studied Arabic and Islamic Studies all throughout his teenage years, and learned how to interpret the Koran
as well. He had in his adult life more than half the koran memorized.
Ahmad was caught up in the turmoil of the Iranian revolution at the age of 25, and was among a group of political prisoners arrested for protesting against the shah of Iran.
He was imprisoned in the shah's prisons between the ages of 25 and 30, and spent 6 months in solitary confinement, and sadly was a torture victim as
well in the Evin Prison in Tehran Iran. He worked as an Arabic teacher after being released from Prison.
In 1979 Ahmad met and married the love of his life, Dr. Fatemeh Behbakht. Dr. Behbakht had been to the United States
and studied sociology. Dr. Behbakht and Ahmad had a beautiful baby girl in Tehran, Iran, named Mona, born in 1982.
In 1985 due to the Iran-Iraq war, Dr. Behbakht and Ahmad Attarchi immigrated to the United States to avoid the bombing of Tehran.
In the United States Ahmad worked at a Muslim school, the sister Clara Mohammad school, located in Dorchester, Massachusetts, for many years.
Ahmad is most remembered for his generosity towards his children and his friends. For many years he sent life saving lung cancer medication to his sister in law in Iran, and kept her alive for 9 years! He also sat and Listened for hours as his closest friends told them of their lives and woes. Mona his beloved first born daughter loved him so much that to pay for a proper Muslim burial she began a Go Fund me Campaign in 2017 to help raise money for his funeral expenses, as he had been diagnosed with Mitral valve stenosis a year earlier.
Ahmad died peacefully among friends and Family at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital on the morning of January 21st, 2021.
He is survived and mourned by his 2 daughters, Mona And Sara Attarchi, and 6 brothers and sisters in Iran, Ali Reza Attarchi, Vaji Attarchi, Fahimeh Attarchi, Hamid Attarchi, Ali Attarchi, and Majid Attarchi. As Ahmad was a torture victim himself, his daughters Mona and Sara Attarchi ask that a donation be made to the Center for Victims of Torture in Minnesota.
