(O'Hara) Barrett
October 20, 1939 – April 17, 2026
Agnes E. Barrett (O'Hara), of West Roxbury and Norwood, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Agnes was the beloved wife of the late Richard J. Barrett and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose life was marked by strength, resilience, and a deep faith. Agnes was the proud daughter of the late Frank and Agnes O'Hara of Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury and was predeceased by her sister Margaret. A graduate of the Blessed Sacrament School in Jamaica Plain, Agnes graduated from Regis College and later attained a masters degree in counseling from Boston State College. Agnes devoted her professional life to education and guidance, serving as a guidance counselor at St. Clare's High School in Roslindale for many years, where she had a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of her students. A woman of deep and enduring faith, Agnes was an active parishioner at both St. Theresa's Church in West Roxbury and St. Denis Church in Westwood. The church community was very much an important part of her life. Agnes enjoyed the relationships she made thru the church and her kindness, wisdom, and steady presence were a source of comfort to her family, friends, and the church community. Agnes was a devoted mother of four children. Agnes is predeceased by her daughter, Margaret, and is survived by her three loving children, Richard and his wife Elizabeth, Ginny and her husband Ken, and Christine and her husband Greg. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. The Barrett family also wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caretakers, Jessica and Julia, whose compassion, kindness, and attentive care brought Agnes great comfort over the past several years. They will always be remembered by the entire Barrett family with deep appreciation. Visiting hours will be held at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre Street, West Roxbury, on Wednesday, April 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa's Church in West Roxbury on Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Agnes's memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston https://www.dana-farber.org/
