Lillian Irene (Southwood) Deitrick

DEITRICK, Lillian Irene, age 95, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Lillian was born September 28, 1923 in Barberton, OH to John Marvin and Grace (Traupe) Southwood. She grew up outside of Akron, OH, and after graduating from high school went on to The Salvation Army Training School (Seminary), to become a pastor. Lillian was dedicated to her service for The Salvation Army, working as a pastor for over 4 decades. She has 5 children, 2 of whom went on to become Salvation Army Ministers. Lillian worked closely with several Salvation Army programs, such as Women’s Ministries, Music programs, Youth programs and crisis help. She was also an exceptional piano player, music being very important to her. She taught many children how to play brass instruments during her pastoral career.

Lillian is preceded in death by her husband of almost 45 years David H. Deitrick, Sr.; Parents – John and Grace Southwood; Siblings – Walter Southwood, Harold Southwood, William (Bill) Southwood, Charles Southwood, Raymond Southwood, Gladys Southwood; Grandchild – Erik D. Miles.

She is survived by her children David H. (Chris) Deitrick, Jr., Charles J. (Chris) Deitrick, Paul D. (Kathy) Deitrick, Diane L. (Dan) Miles, Evelyn G. (David) Wilson; Sister, Evelyn Knaggs Grimm and Sister-in-Law Ada Lance Southwood and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday September 30, at 11:00 am in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, MA.
